No tears shed for demise of recycling
George A. Makrauer

(May 21, 2004) -- About the concern, “We are dangerously close to irreversibly losing significant amounts of recycling capacity” — expressed in the May 17, Page 1 story “NAPCOR laying off president, two execs: PET recycling sector hovering at a crisis level” — why hasn’t the same been written previously as:
“We are dangerously close to irreversibly losing significant amounts of molding capacity.”
“We are dangerously close to irreversibly losing significant amounts of extrusion capacity.”
“We are dangerously close to irreversibly losing significant amounts of bag making capacity.”
“We are dangerously close to irreversibly losing significant amounts of virgin resin capacity.”
“We are dangerously close to irreversibly losing significant amounts of all kinds of plastic capacity.”
What is it about recycling that makes some people want to preserve it as a national treasure when the market says rubbish?
